Why Grace?

As broken people living in a broken world, grace is what we need from God. Like the prodigal son in Luke 15 we all want to have it “my way,” just as Sinatra sang about years ago and Burger King encourages us to do today. Grace is for those who realize that “my way” is no substitute for life without God, and that there must be more, there must be better, than the fleeting happiness we spend so much time and effort pursuing and so little of our lives experiencing.

Grace is the good news that God embraces those who are tired of “my way” and who acknowledge our need to come home to him. And grace is the lavish welcome we receive when we return home to our Father, a welcome that is not only undeserved, but the very opposite of what we should get. It is the way of peace and rest and life and blessing which has been opened to us by the precious blood of Christ and the gift of his Holy Spirit. And it is the way that we seek to embrace in our life together.
